Welcome to the Climate Defence Network (CDN) web site. CDN
is a coalition of groups (see Supporting
Organisations) working in New Zealand on climate policy.
The scientific consensus that climate change is real, that
it is increasing, and that it is a major threat facing human
civilisation in the short, medium and long term is irrefutable.
But political will in New Zealand lags a long way behind scientific
and public understanding, and powerful lobby groups formed
by those who are making massive profits from unpenalised emissions
of greenhouse gases are trying to stop New Zealand taking
meaningful climate change action.
CDN believes that New Zealand should adopt strong policies
to mitigate climate change, and that the New Zealand Government
should work together with the governments of other countries
to create - and follow through on - international climate
change agreements that reflect the seriousness of what climate
science is telling us.
CDN concentrates on developing and advocating strong climate
policies. Although we are mainly a policy development group,
we believe that climate change advocacy and mobilisation are
